Mango Snack Reviews: T - Z

One of my favorite things about the TsumangoKotobuki name is the constant mango jokes. I've turned that around myself and started trying mango-flavored things on my own. This page is a place to share all of my favorite ones!

Tampico Concentrated Mango Punch Juice
Comparable to Sunny Delight, but better
BASIC SYNOPSIS:
Tampico is a small Chicago-based beverage firm starting to make their product available nationwide. My local Walmart began stocking them, so I was intrigued by this unique new product.

I previously reviewed the mango variety of Sunny D, and I draw a lot of comparisons between that product and this one. Tampico is slightly healthier, with more juice and less odd ingredients.

As for taste, it's heavily orange-flavored with only a slight hint of mango. Honestly, I found that disappointing. The mango was barely distinguishable in the taste, vastly overpowered by the orange.

The drink is both good and cheap (1 US Gallon for under $2), but the taste is off if you're expecting anything more than orange flavor.

Teavana Iced Mango Black Tea
Fresh Teavana Tea To-Go
BASIC SYNOPSIS:
If you enjoy tea, you already know about Teavana. A division of Starbucks, they're about as anal about tea as Starbucks is about coffee. That's a good thing though, as there's few places with as high-quality tea. Plus they'll suggest blends and let you sample in-store!

My local grocer started stocking this tea, as well as about five other varieties, as part of a promotion. Sales weren't as great as expected, so I made out with a handful of these Mango Black Tea bottles on the last day.

Having been to Teavana before, I heavilly-expected this to be amazing and was not disappointed in the slightest.

It's more bitter than I'd have personally liked, but that's not a bad thing. I can see the intent was a steeped black tea, properly iced, with a slight hint of mango and what I'm pretty certain is orange peel (correct me if this is wrong).

The flavor is deep and full-bodied. The first sip really does hit you, but you'll work your way into it as you keep drinking the tea. An aftertaste will linger around, but it's not a bad one by any means.

When I first tasted this, I paired it with a local-label Polish sausage. The tea complimented the meat perfectly, and I'd assume it would do the same thing for many other foods.

I've honestly enjoyed this one as much as I'd have hoped (if not even more). I hope it gets distributed on a level to be more easilly-available because, at $2 per bottle, it's very fairly-priced for what it is.

Tootsie Roll Frooties Mango Flavor
One of the newest Frooties flavors!
BASIC SYNOPSIS:
I'll be fair, I've never been big on the fruit-flavored Tootsie Rolls. They've always seemed like a low-effort gimmick to extend the product line. What the company is known for is their chocolate candy that your grandparents got at the drugstore as a kid, not the fuit candies.

That said, I tried these, as I heard this is the newest extention to the line. Perfect for an anime nerd reviewing mango snacks!

I'm not going to get into visual discriptions, as you already know what to expect. Taste though, it's honestly not what I expected. The mango flavor is light, but pleasent. You have to get chewing to pick out the flavor, but it's very much there. It's a very light note of mango, which surprisingly fares well with the sugary taste of the product in general. The flavor seems even better if you eat two at once.

The biggest thing I'll give this credit for is actually tasting like the flavor on the label. Most of the Frooties barely resemble the flavor in question, but these mango ones stand out just perfectly.

Trolli Sour Brite Crawlers Tropical Flavor Pack
A mixture of fun summer beach flavors
BASIC SYNOPSIS:
Trolli Sour Brite gummi worms are already a personal favorite. Though a bit expensive some places, they're on the high-quality end of the gummi candies. This pack was a must-have as soon as I noticed that there was a mango option.

The three flavors included in this tropical pack are Strawberry-Kiwi, Mango-Orange, and Pineapple-Lime. All of these sound like great combos off the bat.

Strawberry-Kiwi is a great pair for savory-sweet. Though somewhat dissimilar on their own, the two mesh together perfectly.

Pineapple-Lime is the perfect level of overall tangy sour. It's not overpowering though, as the tinge of pineapple mutes a bit of the sour flavor from the lime end.

As for the main Mango-Orange, these two pair much better than I would have expected. The mango is exactly as you would expect, though the orange is a bit unique. I was expecting the flavor of a Florida navel orange, but this is more like a clementine. This is a positive development though, as the more mellow flavor pairs perfectly with the mango flavor.

All-in-all, this is a perfect choice for your gummi worm fix. All accurate flavors, and all very palatable. A top recommendation!

Tropicana Essentials Probiotics Pineapple Mango Juice
A blended juice that pairs well for the perfect breakfast drink
BASIC SYNOPSIS:
Most people hear Tropicana and instantly think orange juice. That's the same for me, so I was intrigued to see a completely orange-free beverage from them.

Honestly, this tastes less like juice than an entire smoothie. A perfect blend of apple, mango, pineapple, and banana combine for a full-flavored juice drink. The addition of extra Vitamin C and a helping of probiotics make this a healthy option as well!

The sugar serving is a bit higher than I'd like, but it's made up for in the high-potassium and low cholesterol and fat. The probiotic included is live Bifidobacterium Lactis.

This is definitely not orange juice, it's better. Definitely a recommended breakfast (or anytime) drink. The price is a bit high, but it's also good enough to be worth it by far.

TsumangoKotobuki
A fan-favorite snack that needs no introduction.
BASIC SYNOPSIS:
As much as I'd like to review this product, I'm probably a bit biased, so I've sourced some help from my friends on reviewing it for this page.

Review by Qwan:

This one was a chance find while I was browsing the aisles of Twitter. Though I found it a while ago, I made sure to take my time (about eight months) before writing this review to make sure it was as accurate as possible.

The first thing you'll notice on opening this account is the wholesomeness, it really hits you straight away. This is a feel-good account, no doubt about it! The history posts bring some much-needed knowledge to my factless diet, the cuteposting has a pleasant and full nature to it sure to brighten anyone's day, and the occasional throwback or vintage meme leaves a pleasant aftertaste of appreciation for days past.

But this is not all, as Tsumango Kotobuki encompasses more than just one layer. Spend your time and delve a little deeper, and you'll find the deeper palate to this account. Kindness and enthusiasm abound, wonderfully complementing a thoughtful, genuine and open side. And it's this hidden range that really makes Tsumango Kotobuki worth it; the base account is already special and refreshing, but I have yet to find anything that compares in the "friend" market.

If you're on the lookout for an account to lift your spirits and bring the flavor of joy to your daily life, or if your social diet needs a caring friendship with strong accents of enthusiasm, love and joy in life, I highly recommend this one.

Review by Spoon:
TsumangoKotobuki is the best mango product I've ever experienced, and I don't even like actual mangos that much! TsumangoKotobuki is not for the faint of heart however, it is extremely sweet. You may need to book a checkup with the dentist after eating it in case of cavities from how sweet it is! This product is so expensive is priceless, and I couldn't ask for a better friend & senpai <3

UHA Puchao Mango Gummy Candy
Knockoff Hi-Chew with a taste all its own
BASIC SYNOPSIS:
Have you ever had Hi-Chew? I came in to this one expecting it to be nothing more than a Hi-Chew knockoff found at Meijer. While it's true that it is, the product does distinguish itself from the more well-known product.

The taste of this candy is much richer and deeper than Hi-Chew, with a longer-lasting flavor in general. The taste is more comparable to a fresh mango than a hint of artificial.

My only complaint is that it's harder to chew. There's got to be a trade off though when it's only 89¢ for 10 pieces..

V8 V-Fusion Peach Mango Juice Mix
All the health benefits without the tomato aftertaste!
BASIC SYNOPSIS:
If you don't know about regular V8, it's a drinkable tomato juice flavored blend of eight vegetables. V-Fusion, on the other hand, is a fruit flavored juice blend of fruits and vegetables.

Personally, the peach mango variety is my personal favorite, but I'm revisiting it for a review.

No V8 tastes exactly like the flavor it says, which comes as a result of being a blend of multiple items. That said, the taste is very comparable to the peach and mango flavors listed on the package.

The package lists the ingredients clearly:

• Vegetable juice from sweet potato, yellow carrots and carrots
• Fruit juice from apples, white grapes, oranges and peaches
• Mango puree
• Other stabilizing ingredients

V8 in general is drunk more for the health benefits than the taste. Fortunately for people that don't like tomato juice though, this option exists.

I would recommend any of the V8 V-Fusion drinks to anyone looking to stay healthy, but would especially suggest the peach mango one personally.

Venom Killer Taipan Mango Energy Drink
High-Power Energy Drink for Bad Mornings
BASIC SYNOPSIS:
First off, I'll be honest. I'm not an energy drink fan at all. This may skew my opinion of this somewhat as a result.

My big issue with energy drinks is they all taste like chemicals. Foul tastes that overwhelm any attempted flavors. This doesn't suffer from that though. The mango flavor is the main taste. There's a bit of a weird aftertaste, but nothing too unbearable.

As for the strength, it's more than a Kickstart, but nothing like a Red Bull or other drink. It'll definitely wake you up in quite short order.

To be honest though, I chose this more for flavor than wake-up strength.

Vero Mango Suckers
A Mexican Classic and Dulces Vero's Most-Popular Product
BASIC SYNOPSIS:
These suckers, in a way, are a staple of the Mexican youth experience. Ducles Vero makes a variety of spicy fruit suckers, but Vero Mango is their best-seller by far.

I've tried enough Mexican mango products to know I'm going to expect some heat. This one even surprised me at first. You get this huge rush of heat first, then you hit the mango.

The first few minutes with the sucker is a really hot experience. The majority of the pepper layer is there. As you get further down, it smooths out a bit. Beneath the main layer is the mango flavor. There is pepper embedded all the way through, but further in, it's less pronounced and just lightly contributes to the flavor.

I really enjoy these as a favorite of the Mexican snacks variety and would get these again.

Walong Mango Ramune Drink
A basic budget ramune meant for importing
BASIC SYNOPSIS:
During Ohayocon 2019, I found this in the snack shop at the convention center. I've actually never seen a mango ramune before, so this was certainly a must-have for my reviews page.

Ramune is not normally a highly-flavored drink, so it's hard to get the flavors wrong. This one is pretty accurate to the taste I'd be expecting.

The one unique thing about this is that it's not the European mangoes that many people are used to. This is the Asian variety, most likely from Thailand or the like. The taste might seem a bit off for that reason, but it really is a mango flavor.

This brand is a little more basic, but it's obviously a package marked for purposeful import to the United States, as evidenced in the markings for state bottle returns. It's a mass-market variety, not the actual Japanese original. For what it is though, it's enjoyable and I'd recommend it to anyone.

White Claw Mango Hard Seltzer
A crisp, clean selzer water with a hint of mango

THIS REVIEW PERTAINS TO AN AGE-RESTRICTED PRODUCT
PLEASE OBEY THE LEGAL DRINKING AGE IN YOUR COUNTRY
BASIC SYNOPSIS:
This was a supplier-pushed item that my local grocer started carrying. One of the local beer distributors had stores carry this over the Summer as a sort of out-on-the-boat drink. It's marketed as a light, minimalist drink.

I've never had a spiked seltzer water before, so I'm coming into this with no assumptions or expectations. I know of seltzer water as a cocktail additive, so I'd assume it must be fairly basic. This product is on the lower end of beverages towards a beer, sporting a simple 5% ABV. It's big selling point that is shown off on the can is 2g carbohydrates, 100 calories, and gluten-free.

Opening the can, you get a smell of light mango and water. Very basic indeed. The drink itself is pretty much what I'd expect, a hard seltzer water with a bit of a bite and a wafting light taste of mango. It's highly-carbonated, so expect that fizz hitting your palate.

The drink has a very light, basic taste that, in my honest opinion, would pair very well with  food. It doesn't have enough kick to take away from other flavors you compliment it with.

These type of products aren't a major preference for me, but I do enjoy it. The price tag was far too high for being a regular purchase option, at $9/12oz 6-pack, but it's worth getting again if it could be found cheaper. Definitely a top recommendation.

Yoplait YQ Mango Ultra-Filtered Yogurt
A fancier cup of yogurt
BASIC SYNOPSIS:
I like Yoplait yogurt in general, so seeing this new line of fancy Yoplait got me interested. Especially when I noticed one of the flavors was mango.

Right off the bat, the label shouts out that this is a healthier option. They advertise it as "Ultra-Filtered Milk Yogurt" that's "99% Lactose-Free". Reading the ingredients list is also a walk in the park, featuring no weirdly-named ingredients.

Upon opening the cup, I noticed first-off that the yogurt is a thinner variety, not as thick as the standard cup yogurt. The taste is far smoother, most likely the ultra-filtered part. The fruit flavor comes off far more natural than processed. All together, it's a very pleasant taste and feel.

This yogurt is a bit on the pricier side. My grocer is carrying it for $1.49 currently, which is nearly double the standard cups. That said, if I was in the mood, I'd purchase this again!

Yoplait Oui French-Style Yogurt
A thicker, more natural yogurt option
BASIC SYNOPSIS:
I've never had French-style yogurt, so this is not only a new product, but a whole new experience for me.

The first bit of uniqueness to this yogurt is that it comes in a glass jar with a foil top. Past that though, this yogurt is much more on the natural side, with the label listing milk, sugar, mangoes, yogurt cultures, and some preservatives.

Texture-wise, this yogurt is quite thick until you stir it well. The mango is on the bottom, so it should be mixed well. It becomes very creamy after stirring. Flavor-wise, it's quite unique. This tastes like a far more natural yogurt with a crisp hint of mango and some mango chunks mixed in.

As much as I'm not a yogurt fan, I'd recommend this. The price is a bit high, but it's honestly worth it.

Zumba Pica Cuchara Mix Mango y Tamarindo
The Ghetto Sucker with Plenty of Flavor
BASIC SYNOPSIS:
These admittedly look like quite the ghetto snack if I've ever seen one. Honestly though, that only intrigued me more.

Essentially, this candy is a soft sucker on a cheap plastic spoon. There are two flavors included here, both of which pair perfectly while at the same time conflicting in a great way. One is obviously mango. It's a sweet, sugary mango flavor with a hint of chili. Nothing too extreme. The other is tamarind, essentially a tree nut (technically a legume) with a sweet and sour flavor. It adds a slight bite to the sweetness of the treat.

These two flavors mix perfectly to make a delicious combo. My only complaint is that the spoons are poorly cut, so you can catch your tounge on the ends of the spoons.

Zumba Pica Goma Mango and Tamarind Gummies
The Mexican gummi with just enough bite!
BASIC SYNOPSIS:
Mexican candy is always a fun experience, so finding these in the world foods aisle at Meijer was quite the experience to me. My previous knowledge with the Zumba Pica spoons made these further intriguing to me.

The flavors are very similar to the spoons. Sweet, sugary mango with a hint of chili, and sweet/sour tamarind. The difference is in composition. The mango center is a thicker paste with a bit of gummi elasticity to it. The outer coating is a moistened tamarind powder with quite some stickiness to it. The flavors pair perfectly when you bite into them.

These are very comparable to the other product, but in a much more elegant way. Don't get me wrong, this is cheap candy, but the gummies taste more homemade and authentic. These two flavors mix perfectly to make a delicious combo!
